TRIP is an installation by FCINY's and Triangle Arts Association's current artists-in-residence Laura Väinölä and Ezra Gould.
TRIP is a shrine dedicated to the interconnectedness of humans and nature. The multi-sensory work suggests new ways to experience nature. TRIP explores questions of interdependence, balance and imbalance. Through audiovisual footage, foraged materials, and performative elements, the immersive installation encourages participants to contemplate the depths of oneself. Designed as a safe space, TRIP invites visitors to participate in small acts that help tune in and find vibrancy within.
During their residency, designer Laura Väinölä and film maker/composer Ezra Gould, both from Helsinki, tripped around New York State, and created TRIP as a site specific installation. "Our research for TRIP went in to anthropology and finding common ways in how humans have connected with nature before. We contemplated how our experiences reflect an urban environment, and what kind of challenges we find living in cities", Väinölä and Gould tell.
“We welcome everyone to experience TRIP with an open mind. We want to tease different senses to help or guests get in tune with the space we’ve created: to see, hear, taste and smell something that can take you on a small journey within.”
To experience TRIP, join the opening on Monday June 11, or one of the TRIPs organized from Tuesday June 12 through Thursday June 14. Each TRIP starts at the hour between 4-7pm and runs for 20-30 minutes. The installation takes the shape of a shrine, with meditative soundscapes, tasting and smelling of foraged goods, floral sculptures and mapped video projections.
On Wednesday June 13, there will be a New Moon Meditation held in the studio or on the rooftop of Triangle (weather permitting) with yoga and meditation teacher Peter Ferko. We recommend to arrive to the meditation at 7pm in order to experience the TRIP installation first. Limited capacity: please RSVP to the meditation here. Attendance to TRIP is free of charge.
