Together Alone 2.0

In the spring of 2020 to quickly respond to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, 17 Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes jointly announced an open call for new art projects, reflecting on the global crisis, under the name of Together Alone. Through Together Alone, which was open to all Finnish and Finland-based professional artists who had lost work opportunities due to the corona epidemic, the Institutes sought artistic proposals related to the state of emergency, radical change, resilience, artistic practice in the future, alone together.

As the prolonged pandemic continued imposing challenges for artists and the cultural field worldwide, the Institute network launched a second open call in the spring of 2021 – Together Alone 2.0. Through the open call, the Institutes wanted to give a platform and encourage professionals to consider new ways of operating in a situation where mobility and physical contact are not possible.

To conclude the Together Alone -trilogy and to partake in rebuilding the international cultural field, the Institutes have launched the Together Again -festival. The hybrid festival will take place in the spring of 2023 and include new commissions and projects from the previous open calls that will be displayed on site in Helsinki and digitally travel through time zones from Tokyo to New York.
