The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York is Seeking Development Manager

We are looking for a part time (20–30 hours a week) Development Manager to work at the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York (FCINY) on our soon-to-be-launched fundraising program in the United States. This position will play a vital role within our small and mighty team. Start date August 5.

Responsibilities will include working closely with our Executive Director and Board of Advisors to manage our overall fundraising program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing a patron membership program, grant writing, event planning, donor cultivation, gift entry, and database management. This role will afford a wide range of opportunities for growth and learning within an important international cultural organization and have a far-reaching impact on the creative community involved with the FCINY.  

In addition to experience working in fundraising, preferably in the arts and cultural sector, the ideal candidate should have excellent organization and communication skills and the vision to work independently. 

Please note that you must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Our working language is English and while Finnish language skills are not required, they are a plus.  

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the development database.

  • Managing all gift entry and reconciling monthly with our main office in Finland.

  • Producing acknowledgement and stewardship letters.

  • Conducting prospect research using publicly available sources.

  • Producing reports from the database and tracking key indicators throughout the year.

  • Managing the annual fundraising program.

  • Cultivating donors and soliciting donations.

  • Foundation and corporate grant writing.

  • Assisting in all FCINY events that may include evening and weekend hours.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience / Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or comparable experience.

  • Minimum of two years fundraising experience preferred.

  • Arts and cultural development experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve, analyze, and synthesize information gathered from varied sources.

  • Database management experience, research experience and an understanding of financial terminology and wealth indicators to assess income, assets and philanthropic activity, strongly preferred.

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills (a writing sample may be requested).

  • Organized and efficient, capable of managing multiple projects with competing priorities to the highest standards in a timely manner while remaining flexible and having fun.

  • Accurate and impeccable attention to detail.

  • Ability to work well within a small team.

  • Experience working with high-level volunteers and donors preferred.
