STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVES FOR

THE (POST) PANDEMIC ERA

In fall 2020 – scattered around the world, deeply impacted by global socio-political movements triggered by the anti-racist uprisings in the U.S., facing the urgency of climate change, and all the uncertainty created by the pandemic – the team and board of the FCINY invited the Helsinki based think tank Demos Helsinki to help the Institute rethink our purpose and mission. The process of looking into global megatrends and tensions that impact the institute both short and long term, as well as examining scenarios for the near future, led to rewriting our values statement, restating our purpose, and defining our strategic focus areas for the upcoming years.

OUR VALUES

Responsibility – Through our mission in the arts we work towards the ethical and sustainable wellbeing of the planet and our societies.

Equity - The Institute leads with an intersectional lens, committing to inclusive, anti-racist principles in all facets of our work.

Openness - We are endlessly curious about the world and aim to recognize and respond to timely phenomena. We strive for interdisciplinarity, embracing collaborations and encounters between diverse fields, cultures, and points-of-view.

OUR PURPOSE

Our purpose is to be an active creator of connections and opportunities within the fields of arts, architecture, and design. Enabling dialogue between Finland and the U.S., we strengthen cross-cultural collaborations and partnerships.

Building on Nordic values, and drawing on our base in New York City as  a catalyst for progressive thinking and action, we center sustainability and equity in arts, design, and culture.

OUR STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS

Cultivate Connections Deepen existing and build new strategic partnerships with shared long-term objectives that benefit the professional communities both in Finland and the U.S.

Strengthen our Voice Strengthen the Institute’s voice and commitment to our values of responsibility, equity, and openness.

Develop and Expand our Supporter Base Recognize, cultivate, and grow the Institute’s supporters, providing a range of opportunities for further engagement.

OUR VISION FOR 2025

We are impactful and connected, promoting progressive thinking and action.  Our expanding networks in arts, design, and architecture benefit professional communities on both sides of the Atlantic.
