Project

Smaller is sometimes better

A conversation facilitated by Helsinki based architect and urban designer Arvind Ramachandran.

We hope to encourage a discussion around collective shaping of small-scale public spaces, while sharing interesting examples of such initiatives from Helsinki, New York and elsewhere. Participants are free to join in ways that feel best to them, whether as a listener or as an active participant in the discussion.

How can the collective shaping of local, small-scale public spaces strengthen our sense of belonging?
What role do cities play in supporting residents and communities in improving shared spaces?

Speakers:

Currently visiting New York as the Architect-in-Residence of the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York, and The School of Architecture at Cooper Union. Arvind works on placemaking initiatives that empower underrepresented communities to engage in improving their local public spaces.
