DONOR BILL OF RIGHTS
Below, you will find the FCINY’s Donor Bill of Rights and Ethics policies. Our donor bill of rights is modeled from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, linked in full here. If you have questions about the below policies, please feel free to reach out to our team.
In addition to our Donor Bill of Rights, the FCINY holds the following transparent and ethical guidelines within our fundraising:
The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York:
I. Will ensure that donor data is protected and anonymised by the Institute. We will never sell or distribute donor or supporter data. Any donor wishing to remain anonymous may choose to do so.
II. Will maintain financial integrity. The FCINY has the right to not accept donations or sponsorships that are not in line with the Institute’s inclusive, anti-racist principles. That includes refusing or returning donations or sponsorships from individuals and/or companies supporting anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, police violence, racial discrimination, settler colonialism, and apartheid.
III. Will advocate for socially responsible vendors and investment. The FCINY will not invest in or partner with any companies whose activities undermine our mission to create cross-cultural dialogue, supporting progressive and sustainable visual art, design, and architecture.
IV. Will commit to financial transparency, fair compensation, and strong conflict of interest policies: The FCINY will publicize all 990s and up to date financial statements annually to ensure financial transparency, providing compensation levels, vendor statements, and detailed project costs for public viewing.
V. Will center our mission, values, and strategic goals: FCINY donors support critical programming and are invited to attend FCINY events, exhibitions, and performances. However, donor's gifts do not influence the FCINY’s mission. The FCINY will not adapt programming, choose residency artists, or hire vendors to reciprocate a financial gift.
